Plan your lawn reticulation before you dig

Draw your lawn, enter the flow your tap gives in a bucket test, and Topoform lays out the sprinklers and splits them into zones your tap can actually run.

How it works

  1. Draw the lawn. Trace it over an aerial photo or a site plan, set the scale from one measurement, and mark the house, paths and garden beds. Switch the units toggle in the top bar from ft to m and the whole plan is in metres and litres.
  2. Tell it what your tap gives. Fill a bucket at the tap, time it, and enter the result as the available flow at the source (in metric the app takes it in litres per hour; the bucket test calculator gives you both). Each zone is then kept to 75% of that, so the heads still pop up properly while someone has a shower.
  3. Auto-design. Topoform places Hunter MP Rotator heads head to head — quarter circles in the corners, half circles on the edges, full circles in the middle — groups them into zones, adds a solenoid valve per zone and runs the pipe.

What you get

  • Head positions and arcs for your actual lawn shape, including narrow side strips.
  • Zones your tap can run, each with its flow — one station each on a controller.
  • A parts list with quantities, so you know how many heads, valves and fittings to pick up.
  • Everything editable. Drag a head, change an arc, move a head to another zone; the flows are rechecked.

Good to know

Topoform designs with the Hunter MP Rotator range (MP800SR, MP1000, MP2000 and MP3000, plus strip and corner nozzles). MP Rotators are rated at 280 kPa (2.8 bar); enter your static pressure in bar and the app checks your supply against it. The app sizes all pipe at 32 mm poly with 1-inch valves — it does not design 19 mm or 25 mm poly runs yet, so if you are running smaller poly off the tap, use the layout and the zones and size the pipe with your supplier. Prices in the parts list are US-dollar estimates, not local prices. Drip lines for the garden beds are not supported yet — plan the lawn here and the beds separately. A two-outlet tap timer or a controller then runs the zones one after another.

Questions and answers

Can I run my reticulation off a tap timer?

For a small lawn, yes: a tap timer runs one zone per outlet, one after another. Larger systems with more zones need a controller with solenoid valves. Either way, the zone count from the plan tells you how many outlets or stations you need.

What flow do I need for lawn reticulation?

There is no fixed minimum: a weaker tap simply means more, smaller zones. Measure your flow with a bucket test and enter it; the planner keeps every zone within it.

Is it free?
